Peter Balko: A Single Nice Sentence

Screenwriter and dramaturge Peter Balko was born in 1988 in Lučenec and holds a degree in dramaturgy and film screenwriting from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. Together with Lucia Potůčková and Maroš Hečko, he published the poetry collection Metrofóbia [Metrophobia] (2012) and the story Vtedy v Lošonci [That Time in Lošonc] (2014). He edited an anthology of contemporary Slovak poetry, Literatúra bodka sk (2016), in cooperation with Peter Prokopec; in addition, he also co-wrote the screenplay of the film The Candidate (2013) and worked as assistant to the director during its filming. ‘When I look around at a world which segregates itself with hate and anger,’ he says, ‘I feel that today, a great novel could perhaps have the form of a novelette – or even a single nice sentence.’
