Born in Bratislava in 1976, Michael Hvorecký studied aesthetics at the Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra and currently works in advertising. He has translated several books, is the author of the play Slovenský inštitút, jedna komédia [The Slovak Institute, A Comedy] (2009), and has written eleven novels, half of which have been translated into Czech. His most recent novel, Trol [The Troll] (2017) is described as follows: ‘Welcome to a thrilling, amusing and dark world, which has undergone a fundamental change.
